Shipments of Household Appliances: Line Graphs.

The file ApplianceShipments.xls contains the series of quarterly shipments (in million $) of U.S. household appliances between 1985 and 1989.

a. Convert the quarterly information in the first column to a format that is recognized by Tableau as a date (hint: replace Q1-1985 with Jan-1985)

b. Create a line graph of the data. Does there appear to be a quarterly pattern? Show a closer view of the patterns (Hint: edit the y-axis and set a fixed range of 3500-5000). Name the sheet as “Shipment”.

c. Create a new sheet. Create four separate lines for Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 in one graph. Zoom in to the range of 3500-5000 on the y axis. Does there appear to be a difference between quarters. Which quarter in general has the highest shipments? Name the sheet as “Shipment_Quarter”.

d. Create a new sheet. Create a line graph of shipments at a yearly aggregated level (i.e., total shipments in each year). Zoom in to an appropriate range on the y axis. Add data labels. Add the trend lines. Name the sheet as “Shipment_Year”. What is the overall trend?

e. Create a dashboard and add all three sheets to the dashboard. Show the worksheets stacked.

Type your answers and copy the graphs to a word document. Convert it to a pdf file.
